Firewood and Woodchips

Firewood and Woodchips

Athens Tree Offers and Delivers Wood Chips within our service area

Wood chips and logs are a by-product of the tree care work we do. To be cost-effective and eco-friendly, we recycle our tree debris almost entirely. Brush, branches, and smaller-sized logs are usually chipped up by our wood chippers. Larger-sized logs are loaded into trucks to be hauled from the work site. Logs will fall into three categories:

  1. Lumber logs: these logs are suitable for milling and will be taken to a sawmill. We may be paid for these logs by the mill, but such compensation is already factored into the job price that produced the logs, which helps keep our prices as low as possible for our clients.

  2. Firewood logs: these logs are hardwood logs that can be cut and split for firewood. They will vary in size and species, but will always be hardwoods. Occasionally a little bit of softwood may be in a load, but this is rare. We deliver firewood logs produced at our job sites to your location for free.

  3. Junk logs: these logs are rotten, massive, or otherwise unworkable and unusable wood that came from one of our job sites. This wood is usually taken to an approved fill pit or processing yard that turns this wood into double-ground mulch that is seen in landscapes everywhere. We do our best to keep this category to a minimum.

Wood chips produced by our chippers vary due to the season and type of tree being chipped. The wood chips are raw and untreated but still have great value as a mulch, ground cover, and soil amendment or for leaving it in a pile to decompose into rich soil. Wood chips are delivered for free; however, we recommend signing up with ChipDrop for the best service: Use this link to schedule a chip drop: https://getchipdrop.com/
